Tyrone Marching Band places 3rd at Atlantic Coast Championship
The Golden Eagle Marching Band placed third out of twenty bands at the Atlantic Coast Championships in Camp Hill Pennsylvania on November 2nd.
The band scored an 89.1, their highest score of the season.
For a band that has had two changes of leadership in the past year, the result was considered a phenomenal success by the band members and their director.
“A lot of people, including myself, were very impressed with how highly we placed,” said first year Band Director David Hock.
“I think all of our hard work finally paid off,” freshman trumpet Kara Mills said of ACC’s, “I had a blast!”
The two bands ahead of Tyrone have moved up to open class, which makes for a very promising season next year. The bands being moved up will no longer be in direct competition with Tyrone.
“I feel like we have a great chance to win ACC’s next year if we have a good return rate of members and encourage some new kids to join,” said junior Drum Major Molly Laporte.
Numbers have been a serious issue for the band, but under the new leadership of Director David Hock, the Golden Eagles are looking to grow while maintaining their reputation for excellence.
“Our results at ACCs speak well to how we will do next year, especially since we are only graduating five seniors,” said Hock.
“Next year will be a lot of hard work.” said Laporte.
