Tyrone Lady Eagles upset the Bellefonte Lady Red Raiders 63-39 in last night’s matchup.
Alexis Cannistraci started off the scoring by grabbing Kasey Engle’s missed 3-pointer and putting it back up for two.
Shortly after, Engle was back at it making two 3-pointers back to back and then adding six more points to the board to lead Tyrone to at 19-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Junior Marissa Sprankle took control of the second quarter by starting off with two points from just inside the 3-point line. She connected with the basket two more times for a total of six points.
Cannistraci also added four points in the second to lead Tyrone to a 38-18 lead at the half.
“We did well offensively, shot the ball well, and handled the ball,” said Cannistraci. “We moved the ball well and spread out the points between multiple people.”
“I thought we shot well. I was not happy with the rebounding. We need to rebound like we did in previous games,” said head coach Luke Rhoades. “Defensively we need to play at a high level, which we didn’t do lastnight.”
Tyrone hit some vital 3-pointers coming out after the half that allowed them to gain a 30 point lead over Bellefonte at the end of the third.
“I feel like the team did well. We played tough and hit the shots we needed to,” said junior Maddie Noll, who hit a 3-pointer in the second half.
Sophomore Cherah Mountz also hit a 3-pointer early in the fourth quarter.
Tyrone Lady Eagles are back in action tonight, 1/9/14 at Bald Eagle.
