Cannistraci and Lehman spark Lady Eagles to win vs C-K

Sophomore Alexis Cannistraci

The Tyrone Lady Eagles basketball team extended their winning streak to seven on Thursday night versus the Lady Bulldogs of Claysburg-Kimmel.

The Lady Bulldog’s defense keyed on Tyrone’s leading scorers early,  holding sophomore Kasey Engle to 16 points and junior Finnley Christine to 15 points.  But Tyrone’s back court responded with big plays from sophomore Alexis Cannistraci and freshman Emily Lehman.

Lehman sparked Tyrone’s run with two quick baskets to get the team fired up.

“We were slow to getting started in the 1st quarter,” said Cannistraci, “But, Emily Lehman helped get us up with two quick lay ups. Once our offense picked up, the defense did too.”

“We thought that Emily Lehman came in and gave us a huge spark,” said Engle and Christine.

Cannistraci also had a huge night with 16 points.  However, at the end of the third quarter,  she had to come out of the game with a sprained ankle.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by sophomore Elizabeth Weilandwith 19 points, and senior Kari Glass has 17 points.

“We played very sluggish at both ends of the court,” said Tyrone head coach Luke Rhoades, “We need too be ready to play each night.”

The Lady Bulldogs had a strong defense throughout the first half, but then the Lady Eagle’s figured out their method. Soon after the first half, Christine and Engle were able to score and get the girls into a groove.

The Lady Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday, January 20th at Bedford vs. the Lady Bison.
