The last time you browsed Netflix or Hulu for a new show to binge, you probably saw something that 2018 Tyrone High School alumnus Scotti Everhart had a hand in designing.

As a professional graphic artist for one of Los Angeles’s top marketing and design firms, Everhart is making a name for herself in the advertising and graphic design world.

Everhart has worked on projects for the popular Netflix series Outer Banks, the comedy series FUBAR with Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Prime Video series The Power, the Hulu series Only Murders in the Building with Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin, and the Apple TV+ original film Fingernails, as well as several other independent projects (click the photo gallery above to see some of her designs).

She is currently a junior art director at MOCEAN, an LA based design firm specializing in entertainment, gaming, and corporate branding. In addition to Netflix, Hulu, and Prime Video, MOCEAN’s long client list includes corporate giants like Disney, Marvel Studios, the NBA, and Lexus.

Everhart was part of a team of designers that recently won a silver medal at the 2023 Clio Awards for their work on Guillermo del Torro’s Netflix series, Cabinet of Curiosities.

“Cabinet of Curiosities was a dream project,” Everhart said. “I had the privilege to create two of the episodic key art posters. This project was a huge team effort. Almost everyone on the team put time into it.”

The Clios are awarded annually for innovation and creative excellence in advertising, design, and communication. They are judged by an international panel of advertising professionals and are one of the oldest and most prestigious awards in the design and advertising industry.

Being a professional graphic designer is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream for Everhart. She has been excelling at art since she was old enough to hold a crayon.

Her father, Tyrone High School English teacher Stephen Everhart, remembers countless times when Scotti surprised him with her talent as a young child.

“In preschool, I recall her asking how to translate a three-dimensional object onto a two-dimensional plane. I knew she had talent as well as interest because when I showed her how to draw a transparent cube in three dimensions, she pulled it off as easily as a stick figure,” said Stephen.

By the time Scotti was a teenager, her dad knew that the arts were something she would pursue a career in.

“I remember the owner of a marketing and graphic design company was at our house while Scotti was putting the final touches on a digitized portrait of My Chemical Romance lead singer Gerard Way. She leaned over Scotti’s shoulder and offered her a full-time position after she graduated,” said Stephen.

Tyrone High School art teacher Eric Feather said he recognized Scotti’s talent as exceptional the first time he saw her work.

“Scotti is one of the most naturally talented students I’ve taught in my career as an art instructor,” Feather said. “But it’s not her natural ability that is her most impressive quality as an artist. She has an inquisitive and creative mind and an incredible work ethic.”

Scotti was the first Tyrone High School student to win the Best of Show Award at the annual Tyrone High School Art Show two years in a row.

Feather said he is very proud to have had the opportunity to be a mentor for Scotti in high school.

“I like to think that I helped her grow artistically and inspired her. I shared the artistic knowledge and experiences I had with her, but she’s gone way beyond that now. It’s so pleasing to see her success and view the results of her hard work and talent,” Feather said.

Scotti credits the Tyrone art program with giving her the insight and confidence to become a better artist.

“To me, the most beneficial aspect of the Tyrone art program was the freedom I was given to just experiment and grow into myself as an artist,” Scotti said. “I was never really forced to follow rules or stay inside the box, creatively speaking. If I wanted to expand on an existing assignment or go in another direction, I was always encouraged to do so.”

After graduating from Tyrone, Scotti continued her passion for the arts at Penn State University, where she began getting more involved with photography and digital creation.

As an undergrad, she received a platinum award in the 2021 Graphis New Talent competition for her film poster Something Blue. On campus, she worked as a publication and poster designer for Penn State’s Design for Life initiative.

She was also named the Spring 2022 Department of Graphic Design Student Marshal at commencement, a top honor that goes to one graduate from each academic department.

After graduation, Scotti moved to Los Angeles to take a full-time position at MOCEAN, where she had previously interned during her junior year.

Scotti said that the marketing projects that she works on now can take anywhere from six months to two years to create.

“Simply making a poster is not a long process, but the revision process is often quite extensive,” said Scotti.

She has also worked on independent projects for up-and-coming filmmakers, like the short film Happy Sadurday, which was written and directed by a close friend of Scotti, Hannah Mittermeir.

Mittermeir’s brother died in a drowning accident and the film was a project to honor him and his memory.

“The poster was born after several discussions with Hannah about her vision and intentions for the film. Ultimately, the design was inspired by her personal story that comes to life in Happy Sadurday,” Scotti said.

As for what she is working on now, she can’t say, but she is excited to unveil some new projects in 2024.

“Unfortunately, I’m not allowed to share details about unreleased work or potential projects, but I can say that there are lots of exciting opportunities coming up in the new year and I can’t wait to see where it leads,” Scotti said.

Scotti encourages anyone with creative and artistic talent to have the courage to follow their dreams.

“If you’re passionate about art, there’s a billion and one ways you can make creativity a part of your everyday life. Don’t worry about what people think of you. There isn’t one formula for success. Honestly, what is success anyway?” Scotti said. “Don’t overthink it. Do what makes you happy, and as long as you are creating, you have succeeded.”
