Tyrone Golfers Advance At Sectionals
The Tyrone Golf team took part in the Sectionals tournament on Thursday, September 22, at Ebensburg Country Club. After the match, three of five golfers will go on to play at Districts.
Seniors Cyrus Alhert and Cassidy Miksich and Williamsburg junior RJ Royer will advance.
Last year, Tyrone’s top three scores carded a total of 247. This year, they scored the same. Miksich carded the best score for Tyrone with a 77, followed by Royer with 82 and Ahlert with 88. The rest of Tyrone’s golfers carded in the 100s. Tyrone lost the team tournament by a close score of 2 strokes.
“You might compare this year’s score and comment on how consistent we were at the tournament, but in reality, Cassidy came up clutch for the team and lowered our total to 247. Royer and Ahlert will need to put 110% effort into the District match,” said Tyrone head coach Mike Funicelli.
Funicelli also believes that this is just the beginning for their young team.
“This was just the start for this young team. Half of our golfers had their first appearance in the playoffs. I believe they will put in the work during the offseason and come back stronger than before,” said Funicelli.
The other golfers are determined to come back after a debut that went like this.
Royer and Ahlert will go on to participate in the Boys 2A District tournament Tuesday, September 27, at Scotch Valley Country Club.
The team has played there one time already this season and is hoping to card very spectacular scores.
Miksich will play Thursday, September 29, at Windber Country Club at the Girls 2A District tournament.
