King of the Mountain: Tyrone Golf Repeats as League Champions

Senior ANDREW Ferguson wins League MVP for a third consecutive season

The Tyrone golf team took second place in their Mountain League match at Philipsburg Elks Country Club to become Mountain League champions and finish the season 27-1.

“We had to feel good going into the match, and we did what we needed to do. The ego side of us would have liked to keep the loss column at zero, but there is seven other Mountain League teams that would have loved to be in our shoes,” said head coach Greg Ferguson.

Senior Andrew Ferguson led the team with a first-place finish of 68. Followed up by a score of 83 from sophomore Jake Taylor. Behind Taylor, junior Brent McNeel shot 87. Finally, junior Trey Kyle shot a 93.

“I feel like I could take a lot of positives out of today’s performance. It wasn’t one of my greatest rounds but I’m looking forward to moving on to districts,” said McNeel.

Ferguson, McNeel, and Taylor all finished first-team all-stars. For the third year in a row, Ferguson obtained the title of MVP in the Mountain League.

“Given the sub-par season that I have had, it is a great feeling to win MVP for the third year in a row,” said Andrew Ferguson.

The regular season is over for the golf team but they are headed for the postseason. They are competing at The Summit Country Club for sectionals.

“I feel pretty good about the group going to sectionals, and I believe that we have as good as chance as anyone to make it to districts,” said Coach Ferguson.
