The Tyrone Varsity Golf Team beat Huntingdon and Bellwood but lost to Hollidaysburg and Bishop Guilfoyle in their last regular season match against Huntingdon, Bellwood, Hollidaysburg, and Bishop Guilfoyle, ending the regular season with an 11-12 record.
“I feel pretty good about how the season turned out,” Tyrone Head Coach Michael Funicelli said. “ We have a very well-rounded team, and we showed that throughout the season. We finished as the top team at the Ebensburg Invitational against some really strong teams, and finished in the middle of our LHAC section, but had to compete against Hollidaysburg and BG at each of our three section matches.”
While the Golden Eagles did not finish with a winning record, seven of their 11 losses were to Bishop Guilfoyle and Hollidaysburg, which are both solid teams.
“We head into the playoffs hoping that we can all play smart technical golf at sectionals and advance to districts,” Funicelli said.
Representing Tyrone for the playoffs will be Kaleb Sweitzer, Blake Sweitzer, Will Lower from Williamsburg, Preston Long from Williamsburg, Ty Uplinger from Williamsburg, and Caleb Miller.
Tyrone golf has had some deep playoff runs in the past, so Funicelli hopes to see one or more of Tyrone’s top golfers make a run.
