Tyrone Exits Post Season in First Round; Lose 0-1 to Huntingdon

Tyrone finished the 2017 season with a controversial one nill loss at rival Huntingdon on Wednesday, October 25.

The loss caps off a downward tilt for the Eagles, who after a hot start to the season, ended with an eight-game losing streak.

However, the 2017 squad still improved their season record from the previous year to 6-7-2.

“Its unfortunate we couldn’t beat Huntingdon on their home turf, but I’m really proud of what these guys accomplished this year and I’m excited to see what we can do next year,” said Tyrone Head Coach Nick Miller.

The Eagles and Bearcats focused on a defensive possession style of play for much of the opening half. Both teams clicked on offense however and made the most of their low shot counts. The Tyrone attack finally found some ingenuity after a long streak of games with a flat offense.

Ten minutes into the game Tyrone missed a pivotal scoring opportunity on a close shot by Corey Johnston, but his shot was deflected by the opposing keeper.

The score was tied 0-0 after an intense first half of play.

Both teams came out of the half knowing there season could conclude and the end of the half.

However, a key defensive miscue cost Tyrone a goal. After an over commit on the far side by Tyrone Huntingdon was able to find an open runner. The opposing player easily finished the open shot giving the Bearcats the one goal league.

The goal demoralized Tyrone and created a large hurdle for the Golden Eagles to overcome. Tensions between the Eagles and Bearcats remained high, however, keeping the game exciting.

With one minute remaining on the clock senior Jesse Daughenbaugh made a run into the Bearcat box but was taken down just inside of it.

The ball was booted out and senior Blake Johnston was fouled near the middle of the field. With seconds remaining Tyrone quickly whipped a free kick into the box where Jesse Daughenbaugh was once again taken down.

Controversially, no call was made on the play.

“It was sad that it was our last game, but I’m happy for the journey we took to get here,” said senior captain Asher Christine.
