Tyrone Earns Double Win on Senior Night

Tyrone swim team defeated Mifflin County on February 12th. The girls won 103-64 and the boys won 77-12. The girls improved to 8-1 and the boys are 3-5.

The girls 200 medley relay(2:03.86) and the 200-yard free relay(1:50.42) both took home first-place finishes. The relay teams included Fiona McConnell, Sarah E. Hoover, Madison Coleman, and Mae Decker. 

Senior McConnell placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:08.96) and placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.01).

We had some really good swims and comebacks today. It’s crazy how fast the season came to an end but I know the district team will go far. It has been a pleasure swimming with this group of seniors and I’ll miss them all so much

Senior Decker placed first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:08.91) and placed second in the 100-yard free(1:03.21).

Senior Cate Baran placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.57) and placed third in 100-yard freestyle (1:04.10). Junior Hoover placed second in the 200 IM (2:29.19) and placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.45). 

“We had some really good swims and comebacks today. It’s crazy how fast the season came to an end but I know the district team will go far. It has been a pleasure swimming with this group of seniors and I’ll miss them all so much,” said sophomore Ellie Oakes.

The boys placed first in the 200 medley relay(2:06.21) and the 200-free relay (1:53.41). The relays included Matt Lenze, Hunter Gregg, Aden McCracken and Keegan Raabe.

The only double winner for the team was Matt Lenze. He won the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.27) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.81). 

Senior Raabe placed first in the 50-yard freestyle (26.78) placed second in 100-yard free (1:02.53). Junior Gregg placed first in 100-yard free (1:00.08) and placed third 50-yard free (27.48). junior McCraken placed second in both the 200 IM (2:41.70) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:24.35)

“Everyone has been working so hard this season and the times are showing it. I’m really proud of everyone, and I can’t wait to see what districts will bring,” said Hoover.

The Tyrone swim team will compete in Districts on February 28th and 29th at Penn State’s Natatorium.
