Tyrone Freshman Madison Coleman and Colin Yaudes recently swam at the district and state level for the Hollidaysburg YMCA Tigersharks.

At the district competition, Coleman placed 8th in the 50 freestyle, 4th in the 100 freestyle, and her 200 freestyle placed 7th.

It is really cool to compete in anything at a state level. You are competing against the best. It’s a pretty humbling experience that I’m glad I earned a spot to be a part of

Typically in YMCA districts, only the top six timed individuals advance to the states, but relay teams have time requirements. Coleman and her team made the states time cut, moving them to the next level. Coleman also advanced in her 100 free.

Yaudes swam the 200 IM and placed 12th, along with the 100 breast in which he placed 14th in the district. Yaudes also swam in a relay that advanced to states. He and his 200 medley relay team placed 5th.

At the state level, Coleman’s relay team placed 20th and she earned a best time in her 100 freestyle with a 56.75, which was 15th in the state.

“It was a good feeling to know I dropped time and [it] makes me want to keep working hard at practices to keep improving with each meet,” said Coleman.

Yaudes’ 200 medley relay placed 12th in the state.

“It is really cool to compete in anything at a state level. You are competing against the best. It’s a pretty humbling experience that I’m glad I earned a spot to be a part of,” said Yaudes.
