Tyrone defeats Central in 2OT in boys soccer

The Tyrone boys soccer defeated Central 1-0 in double overtime on Monday, October 13.  The game winning shot came off the foot of junior Noah D’Angelo.  The shutout win was the fourth of the season for Tyrone junior keeper Anthony Politza.

Both teams struggled during regulation with missed opportunities and errant shots.

I don’t really worry about shutouts, they’re nice but I just focus on the team and the win

The scoring almost started early in the second half when Freshman Blake Johnston shot from outside the 18 yard box and hit the crossbar resulting in a save for The Dragons.

More shots came in the second half from the Dragons. Five of the Dragon’s six shots were on target but none of them sniffed the net because of Junior Anthony “The Wall” Politza.

“I don’t really worry about shutouts, they’re nice but I just focus on the team and the win,” said Politza.

The Eagles also shot five times with three on net in the second half but could  not manage to score, forcing the game into overtime.

Neither team got a shot off or even came close to the net because of great defense from both teams forcing the game into yet another overtime.

Five minutes into the second overtime Junior Noah D’Angelo scored just outside the 18 yard box when the ball bounced off the Dragons’ keepers gloves sealing the game for the Eagles.

With the playoffs just around the corner, Head Coach Nick Miller is confident about the team.

“We are young, but I’m impressed with how we’ve done so far, but I think we can win some games in the playoffs,” said Miller.

The Eagles record advanced to 9-6.
