Despite outhitting their opponents 7-5 the Golden Eagles baseball team suffered their third straight loss, falling to Mountain League opponent Clearfield Bisons 6-1 on April 2.

Despite the seven hits, Clearfield was able to avoid giving up runs with three infield double plays and two pick-offs moves by starting pitcher Thomas Summer. The Clearfield lefty did not give up an earned run in six innings of work.

Walks were also a factor in the Eagles loss. Tyrone senior starting pitcher Tristan Lingafelt had a hard time finding the strike zone and Clearfield took advantage by loading the bases in the top of the third. They then scored four runs with two RBI singles.

Tyrone responded with a run by senior Pooky Soellner by in the bottom of the third.

Tyrone had opportunities to score runs with the bases loaded in the fourth, but couldn’t capitalize.

Soellner led the Eagles with two hits, and scored Tyrone’s only run.

Clearfield added two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning, and then blanked the Eagles in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win.
