A good season for the Tyrone Golden Eagle Marching Band got even better as they placed second at the Chapter 11 championships on Saturday, October 22.

“The band performed their best performance on Saturday. Unfortunately the score doesn’t really reflect that, but it’s not unheard of for scores to go down a little bit when you have so many bands being judged in one competition, and when you have a different set of judges who had never seen our show before,” said Hock.

The bands competing directly with Tyrone from group 1A were Brockway High School, Conemaugh Township High School, DuBois Area High School, Juniata Valley High School, Mount Union High School, Somerset High School, Westmont Hilltop High School, Windber Area High School.

The competition began with the Somerset High School Marching Band at 6:00 who placed ninth with a score of 78.55.

Tyrone received a score of 87.365 and placed second behind Windber Area High School who scored an 88.13.

“I’m very proud of all the students and how much they continue to get better each week. The band earned the High Music Award, which means that we were first place in the combined music captions. We were given first place by the individual visual caption judge, meaning we are showing individual strengths in the visual category. Now we just need to clean up and strengthen visually as an entire group and entire package,” added Hock.

The band has a week to prepare for the Atlantic Coast Championships on Saturday, November 5 at Camp Hill.

“The band really needs to work hard  next week and I think they can do even better at ACC’s if they put their minds to it and stay focused,” said Hock.

The TAHS Band is currently ranked eighth out of 40 marching bands from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia for the Atlantic Coast Championship Series. The first place ranked band in the Atlantic Coast Championship Series is Windber Area High school who is from the same chapter region as Tyrone.
