Twelve marching bands played for an enthusiastic audience on Saturday, October 7 at Tyrone High School’s annual Music In The Valley marching band competition.

“The show was a huge success. We have heard many positive comments from many of the bands and spectators about our show and about our band. It’s very encouraging to hear these encouragements,” said Tyrone Marching Band Director David Hock.

The band achieved a score of 87.57 at the show.

Ten of the 12 performing bands competed for trophies. Tyrone performed in exhibition. In a normal field show exhibition means that the hosting band is judged and receives a score in the Tournament Of Bands rankings, but does not receive a placement or trophy for that event. In a normal outside performance, the score counts in the overall TOB rankings, even though it’s an exhibition.

“The Marching Band had a wonderful performance and increased their score more than three points. We were honored to host the St Francis University marching band. Dan Atwood is a wonderful person and musician and he is very happy to bring his band to our show and talk to the students,” said Hock, “We were also happy to have many new bands come to our show from other regions, including Youngsville, Keyser, and Jersey Shore, among others. Overall it was a great evening. Huge thanks to everyone who helped out and to the Tyrone Area Administration and school board for a wonderful new field surface on which we could perform.”

To Hock, the most important thing for his band is to grow and improve each and every time they perform.

The band’s current place in the Tournament Of Bands ranking is second place out of 44 schools for the Atlantic Coast Championship rankings.

The band will travel to Greater Johnstown High School on Saturday, October 14, 2017.

The Greater Johnstown show is the final show before the Chapter 11 Championships at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and the Atlantic Coast Championships show at Central Dauphin High School.

The bands in group 1A are Juniata Valley High School, Mount Union High School, Somerset High School, Tyrone High School, Westmont-Hilltop High School, and Windber Area High School.
