Less than two months into her college career, Tyrone alumni Cassidy Miksich has already added a collegiate record to her resume.

Miksich made an impressive contribution to Alvernia’s win at the Elizabethtown College Invitational at Hershey Country Club, breaking the school’s single-round record with a 2-under par score of 69 on a 71-par course. Miksich finished seven strokes ahead of the tournament’s second-place finisher.

The single-round record was previously set by Mikscih’s teammate, junior Katie Lapinsky, in 2022.

The team also won the tournament by seven strokes, breaking the school’s team record by five shots with a score of 310.

“It honestly means a lot,” Miksich said when asked about her accomplishment, “I am extremely grateful for my team and coach, who have been supportive of me throughout this big transition.”

Starting her day out the seventh hole, Mikscih easily met the par four. She had a bogey on the eighth hole, only to score another par on the ninth. She followed with an impressive birdie on the tenth, followed by two bogeys on the 11th and 12th holes. She earned a par on the 13th, a birdie on the 14th, two back-to-back pars on 15 and 16, another birdie on 17, and finished the back holes with a par on the 18th.

When moving on to the first six, Cassidy kept her par streak for holes one and two. She followed those up with a birdie on three before continuing to par the fourth and fifth. Cassidy kept her momentum throughout her final strokes, finishing her round strong with a birdie on the sixth hole. She finished two-under for this Invitational, scoring a stately seven points below the second-place winner, York’s Grace Strickland, also sealing their seven-point team win.

“I am excited about what the team and I both accomplished. For my last two holes, I was shaking. I knew where I stood and wanted to finish out strong,” Miksich said.

Alvernia Head Coach Tom O’Connell commended Miksich for her feat, saying in an interview with Alvernia’s news staff, “Cassidy’s achievement on the course today was special for our program, the team, and Cassidy as a golfer.”

Coming up on Monday the 25th, the Alvernia Women’s Golf Team will attend the Albright College Fall Invite in Orwingsburg, where Cassidy and her teammates hope to secure yet another win.
