Two Tyrone Middle School Students Volunteer Their Time For Their Community

It may have been April Fools Day, but middle school students Erik McCahan and Frankie McE lwain weren’t fooling around when they volunteered their time for the Hillside Community Church and Epworth Manor in Tyrone.

“We planted flowers, laid mulch, ripped out shrubs, and made everything accessible for the senior citizens. All the work was done outside,” said McCann.

Erik and Frankie also worked with the grounds crew from Epworth Manor from 8:30 in the morning to 12:30 in the afternoon.

“The kids enjoyed themselves while they were working on the property,” said TAMS councilor Rick Zupon.”You could see the smile on their faces while the kids were working.”

The Hillside Community Church reached out to the middle school for students to volunteerĀ for the clean up.

“It was a really good opportunity for the students to volunteer and give back to the community,” said Zupon.

Erik and Frankie were invited back by Epworth Manor and the Hillside Community Church for future cleanups and renovations to the property.

On May 18th 2017, Erik and Frankie will hold a free car wash and oil change event for single mothers and elderly women to celebrate Mother’s Day.

The event will be held at the Hillside Community Church which is located across the street from Mac’s Market from 9:00 in the morning until 12:00 in the afternoon.
