Tyrone Boys Defeat Penns Valley and Central; Girls Split

Impressive victories over Penns Valley (98-52) and a tough battle with competitor Central-Martinsburg (88-52) kept the Tyrone Boy’s Track Team at the top of the rankings this week.

With a few more high caliber performances, it is possible for the boys to take the Mountain League Championship.

The Tyrone girls fell to Penns Valley but dominated against Central Martinsburg (83-56).

There were twelve first place finishes on the boy’s team including a season best jump of 40’ 8.75” from Cullen Raftery in the triple jump.

Altogether, at least one Tyrone boy placed either first, second, or third in each event.

Long jump was swept against Penns Valley with Mitchel (19’3”), Raftery (18’9”), and Meredith (18’6.5”)

The boy’s 4×400 meter relay with Adam Zook, Cullen Raftery, Grayson Putt, and Will Lash produced personal best split times to beat Central-Martinsburg with a time of 3:47 minutes.

The girl’s team was able to place in each event as well. The throws were dominated by Shania Lowery winning shot put (27’10.75”), Becca Schleppy in discus (78’2”), and Carly Crofcheck in javelin (96’7”).

Other outstanding performers include Erika Voyzey and Lexi Cannistraci in high jump, Emily Beam and Kristen Johnson in the 800 meter, and Makenzie Stauffer and Payton Wagner in the 110 meter hurdles.

Tyrone’s next season meet will be Tuesday, April 19th at home against Bellefonte and Huntingdon.
