The 11-1 Tyrone Golden Eagles travel to Mansion Park this Saturday to play the undefeated Mt Union Trojans in the District 6 AA Final.

Both teams come off blowout wins in their semifinal game, Tyrone against Huntingdon and Mt Union against Central.

Tyrone fans have often labeled Mansion Park as their “home away from home” during the football season. Year in and year out, the Golden Eagles are contenders for the District 6 title. In fact, Tyrone has hauled in 8 titles since the 1995.

Mt Union has a little bit of a different history.  This is Mt Union’s first undefeated season in school history and their first trip to the District 6 final game in over 20 years. The Trojans have never won a district title.

We are very excited for Saturday. We know that we can beat them. All we need to do is execute

However, the past is the past.

The Trojans are likely the most talented team Tyrone has faced all season. The high-flying duo of quarterback Trevon Walker and running back BJ Loner are probably the best two athletes Tyrone has seen. Loner can play practically any position on the field. He not only leads the Trojans in rushing yards with over 14 yards per carry, he also leads the tesam in receiving yards.  This guy’s is good — real good. He can shake and bake with the best of them. Tyrone will need to stop him or the Golden Eagles will be in for a long night.

This Trojan team thrives on the big play. They can bust just about any run for a touchdown with the slightest defensive mistake.

However, the Tyrone defensive squad is stellar. Tyrone has allowed opposing teams very few rushing yards so far this season.  They have not given up more than 26 points in a game this season and only three of their last nine opponents have scored more than a touchdown against the Golden Eagle defense.

The key for Tyrone will be limiting Mount Union’s big play potential.

That being said, the Trojans have not had much trouble finding success on the ground. Mt Union averages an intimidating 280 rushing yards per game.

But let’s not forget that the Tyrone offensive squad has also been a dominant force in the area.  Few teams have had an answer for the smash mouth football on which Tyrone prides itself.

“We are very excited for Saturday. We know that we can beat them. All we need to do is execute,” said senior defensive end Duane Boone.

This is a much anticipated game. The two superpowers of District 6 meet for the first time this season on Saturday.

If you can stand the cold, you would get your money’s worth in this one. It’s gonna be a show.
