In last week’s thrilling 28-27 win over Bishop Guilfoyle, the Golden Eagles finally played the level of football that the players, coaches, and fans expected from them this year.
This week Golden Eagles fans will see if they can keep it going when Tyrone hosts the Huntingdon Bearcats on Friday night. A win would move their current 3-3 record over the .500 mark.
Last season the Golden Eagles defeated the Bearcats 14-6 in a close game in Huntingdon.
The Bearcats come to town with a less-than-impressive 1-5 record, but they have shown that they can compete with teams and put points on the board.
Tyrone and Huntingdon have had several common opponents already this season. While Huntingdon lost big to Bishop Guilfoyle 53-20, they were able to give Central a tougher game than Tyrone, losing 34-21 to the Dragons. Both teams were also defeated by Clearfield, but Tyrone was able to keep the game closer than the Bearcats.
Huntingdon’s only win this season was against Bellwood, who they crushed 41-16. Tyrone defeated Bellwood 34-0 two weeks ago.
With the power-I formation that Huntingdon plays, they love to run the ball and occasionally take shots down the field off of play action.
Starting quarterback Erick Mykut does a good job of getting the playmakers the ball as well as calling his own number when defenses give him the opportunity.
Out of the backfield, their main backs are Evan Edmiston and Ashton Steele. Edmiston has shown that he can run hard in between the tackles as well as help out as a blocker if need be.
Steele is a very respectable athlete who is a jack of all trades. He can run and catch the ball, and also throw the ball downfield to keep the defense on their toes.
But by far the most dangerous weapon on the Bearcats squad is wideout Tyler Long.
Huntingdon will look to get Long the ball on most passing plays. His speed and size have been a problem for teams so far and the Golden Eagles will have to do their best to keep this playmaker in front of them.
The Bearcat offensive and defensive line has some size, however, Tyrone’s lines have also been a bright spot in the last few weeks. The big boys up front for the Golden Eagles will look to continue improving their level of play this week to show that this Golden Eagle team is here to win.
