Golden Eagles Survive Bearcat Attack

Tyrone survived another scare last Friday night in the 1-3 Huntingdon Bearcat’s den. The undefeated Golden Eagles came to Huntingdon with their heads high but quickly realized the game wouldn’t be as easy as they expected.

The first quarter ended in a 0-0 tie, something the Golden Eagles are used to, as it has occurred each of the last three weeks for their team.

But just like the last several weeks, the Eagles finally got the ball rolling in the second quarter, this time with a blocked punt.

Senior Ross Gampe broke through the Huntingdon line and smacked the punt down allowing Nate Patterson to pick it up and run it all the way back to the Huntingdon 10-yard line, setting up a Tyrone touchdown.

On the offensive side of the ball, Tyrone struggled to put up as many points, as usual, only scoring 7 in the first half.

The Bearcat defense proved to be one of Tyrone’s hardest challenges this season so far.

Tyrone’s only scores were a 5-yard pass from Ashton Walk to Andrew Weaver at the goal line and another goal line pass from Walk to Ross Gampe.

Huntington’s only score came off of a 58-yard deep pass play, hauled in by Foster.

Tyrone’s Defense once again carried the load, holding the Bearcats to only 6 points.

Tyrone’s defensive line did most of the heavy lifting, racking up 4 sacks. Two by Andrew Weaver, one by Braden Ewing and another by Ross Gampe.

Along with the sacks, the Golden Eagles generated a fumble, forced and recovered by senior linebacker Joshua Patterson.

“I saw my opportunity to rip the ball out, so I took it,” said Patterson.

While the Tyrone offense seemed to underperform compared to the past four weeks, the defense continued their dominance, as they have held their last 4 opponents to seven points or less.

This unstoppable defense has created a new culture for the Tyrone team, not only holding opposing teams to limited scoring totals but allowing their offense to score as well.

The Tyrone team will hope to continue their winning streak, taking on the Bald Eagle Eagles Friday, September 30, at Grays Memorial Field.
