The Day I Thought Christmas was Ruined

By Eric Hartsock, Guest Writer

It was a day before Christmas and I asked for a new game system called a PS3 (Play Station 3) I was one of those kids that had an old system from the 1970s. I was certain that my parents would do the best they could to make every Christmas a great one even if it could be a bit pricey. Something told me that I was goanna get what I asked for and so what I did was I disconnected my old Xbox system (not an Xbox 360) and I put it aside to make room. But I kept it around just in case if I didn’t get what I asked for.

The next day, it was Christmas and I was so excited to see if I finally get what’d I for a long time. At lease for 5 years or so. I would ask for the PS3 those past years but I was afraid to do so since we didn’t get a lot of money. Before I went for the presents, I always eat breakfast first so I had the energy to be happy. I also had to wait for both my mom and dad to be around. When I was done eating and my parents were around, I looked for the biggest one first. I opened the first one and no PS3, just cloths. The other presents where the same and some had some candy in them. I was disappointed but I just smiled at my parents and said “Thanks for the gifts”. I walked over to my TV to re-connect my old Xbox system but then my mom said “Wait.” At the same time I didn’t see my dad go upstairs but I seen him walk down with a big wrapped up box with a small bag of little presents and was told by mom “We forgot about these presents.” I could tell that my parent s did this on purpose. I opened the gifts and I got my PS3 system and 4 different games for it. I was so excited that I must have hugged my parents so hard; their faces were red like a tomato. As I connected the PS3 and plugged it in and everything else I had to do, I put a game in. And nothing happened. The system didn’t even take the game. So I asked my uncle for help since he knows this stuff better than I do. He tried everything and then he said these words to me. “The system is no good.” I thought I was goanna cry a bit. So I tried to retreat in my room so no one could see me with the disappointing look on my face. Then my uncle said “Wait! Come here.” So I said “What? There’s nothing more you can do.” Then he said “I’ll lone you my PS3 until you get a working one.” I was kind of happy but at least I get to have a PS3 to play. The best part was that my uncle had a way to get a working PS3 system and for it to be held for me until I get it, that way no one can take it. If my uncle wasn’t friends with a Game Stop employee, then I might have had to wait longer to get it.

The next day in the morning, my uncle said that a Game Stop store in Altoona at the Logan Valley Mall had a PS3 system waiting for me and was being held for me. He then asked if I wanted to go now. I replied “Yes please!!!” He then said “Get ready in five minutes.” I said “Ok. Thank you very much.” Then he replied “Hey I was just as upset as much as you were. I helped you get it.” Then I said “Really?” Then he said “I’ll explain when we head to the mall.” “Ok.”

Five minutes later, I get his PS3 system ready to go so when I bring the PS3 that the Logan Valley mall is holding for me since I had fate that this time the PS3 will work. This way he can just take it and go. At the same time, I got my defective PS3 ready to go so the Game Stop workers can take it. Then my uncle came through the door and said “You got everything packed up?” I said “Yes I got everything ready. Let go.” So we get the defective PS3 and get in the car to the Logan Valley mall. At the same time, it was snowing a little bit. But at lease it wasn’t a lot or this trip would be on the next day.

As we made our way to the high way, my uncle said “The reason why I was upset as much as you were was because I helped your parents get it. Remember that day when you were up at my place and I told you not to look at the printer until I was done with it?” I answered “Yes.” He said “Well that was because I had to print down the delivery papers and I didn’t want you to see that.” I said “Oh really?” “Yeah and when you got that PS3; that got me a lot of point for my Game stop card and do you know how much I got?” I said “No.” “Well I got five thousand points from it. So you helped me out so. And I am looking for something for you on the Nintendo Club.” I said “Well you’re welcome for those five thousand points, but you don’t have to get me anything from Nintendo Club. But that’s up to you.”

Ten minutes later we got to the mall and made our way to the Game Stop store. Lucky for us there weren’t any people in the story except for the workers, so I thought this would go quickly and it was. We told the worker that the person that my uncle was friends with called form the Game Stop next to the Wal-Mart about switching the defective system with another PS3 system. So the employ went back to their storage area and came back out with a PS3 box with a new PS3 in it. He gave me the new PS3, said thanks and left. Good thing that Game Stop isn’t the fee kind of store. As soon as we left the mall and went to the car, I thought we were going back home, but I was wrong. He said that we were going to the Game Stop store where his friend works at. He told me that the name of his friend is Brittney.

As soon as we got in the store, I was look around for Brittney but couldn’t find her. Then my uncle pointed out that she was behind the counter. So I walked up to the counter with my uncle and asked if her name was Brittney. “Yes.” She answered. As soon as she saw my uncle, she gave me a look that told me she knew who I was. “I wanted to thank you for helping us out with our PS3 problem.” She replied “You’re welcome.” After my uncle was done talking with Brittney, he then wanted to shop for a game or two. He said to me that the first Game Stop store he goes to is one. That because the one that Brittney works at has the games that my uncle was looking for. Before I took my PS3 home, I took it to my uncle’s place so I can get it updated and get some demos too. I couldn’t do that at home since I didn’t have an internet connection at home.

After I got to take my system home I gave my uncle back his and I got mine all connected to my TV and this time when I put a disk in, it took the disk and played it. My uncle said to me “How does it feel to have your own PS3 system?” “It feels great! Now I’ll be up to date with the new games.” “Well if you ever want to get demos or get your system up dated, just give me a call.” “Sure think and thanks for everything you do.” “Well the whole family helped to make this possible so don’t say we don’t love you.” When I heard that, I’m thinking to myself that it must have been really exceptive and that they care about the things I like to have.
