TAHS promposal contest: Dancing their way to prom!
Gabby Whetstine and TAHS graduate Johnny Payne are Week 2’s promposal couple
Although they say chivalry is dead, 2014 Tyrone graduate Johnny Payne didn’t think so when he “promposed” to senior and longtime girlfriend Gabby Whetstine in a classically romantic way.
“It is my right as the man of the relationship to ask my girlfriend to prom whether I’m in high school or not,” said Payne.
Johnny promposed to Gabby with the help of his best friend, Noah Tepsic, the girls and teachers at the local dance studio, Dance Fusion, where Gabby takes classes.
Johnny spelled out “Prom?” in candles on the dance studio floor and surprised Gabby as “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeren played in the background.
“I was very surprised because Johnny is not usually romantic, and I didn’t know he was home from college,” said Whetstine.
Johnny came up with the idea with the help of Dance Fusion owner, Lindsay Pullara. He wasn’t nervous to prompose since the couple has been together for so long.
Gabby knew she would say “yes” immediately but was still surprised by Johnny’s romantic gesture.
The couple is looking forward to spending another year at prom together. Johnny is most excited to drive Gabby in her mom’s car, and Gabby can’t wait to get all dressed up.
