The Tyrone Area Marching Band completed another week of competition with a second place score of 84.48 at the Huntingdon Competition this past Saturday, October 11.

This followed another exceptional performance at the band’s Home Show at Gray Field on Saturday, October 4.  As the hosting band they were not eligible to place, but their score of 84.37 was the highest score in their class.

At the Tournament of Bands (TOB) sanctioned event at Gray Field on Saturday, October 4 twelve bands performed from the Chapter XI area including Johnstown, Conemaugh Township, Huntingdon, Somerset, Central , Winder, Brockway, Juniata Valley, Mount Union, Shade-Central City, DuBois, as well as the Tyrone Golden Eagle Marching Band.

The show kicked off at 6:00 pm with the singing of the national anthem by senior drum major Molly LaPorte and junior drum captain Gina Gavazzi.

Following the anthem Johnstown was the first band to take the field performing their show entitled “Let Go”.

With bands performing on the field and many others warming up on the streets the west side of Tyrone was filled with music.

Tyrone took the field at 7:15 with their first full performance of “Night Moods.”   The band performed four songs and some changes were added to the drill from pervious performances.

“We fixed a lot of our problems from the week before at the practice before the show,” said senior guard captain Amber Chamberlain.

“The guard put on a great show for the community and reached one of its goals for the season: scoring a sixteen out of twenty in our caption. The entire band performed to the best of our ability and that showed in our score,” added Chamberlin.

“We had a great turnout this year,” said band president Carrie Vance, “Out of all of the competitions we’ve been to in our chapter this year ours has hosted the most bands.”

With eleven bands performing “Music in the Valley,” Tyrone’s event was a rather large show.

The home show and show at Huntingdon were the final  two performances before Chapter XI Championships at IUP, which will occur this coming Saturday night, October 18.
