The TAHS library is now accepting donations of non-perishable food items like these in exchange for library fine forgiveness.

Tyrone Area High School Library will be accepting canned items for forgiveness of library fines until December 18, 2013.

All canned goods will be given to the Tyrone Area Food Bank.

“The idea came from another school,” librarian assistant Mary Riggle said, “I then took [the idea] to the administration.”

According to Riggle, students currently owe approximately $85 in fines at the high school library.

Riggle is hoping for a good turnout because it is a good opportunity to help needy people in our area.

Students who have a large library fine can bring one can of food for $1 in fines. Even if students don’t have a fine,  donations are encouraged and will be used to help the needy in our area. The names of those who donate will also be given to the food bank.

The library is open and accepting donations from 8:00 am to 3:15 each school day.
