WILDWOOD, NJ– On May 3-6 the Tyrone Area High School dance team, color guard, and majorettes travelled to Wildwood, New Jersey for the 2013 Atlantic Coast All Chapter Championships. The dance team earned 2nd in their division, the majorettes placed 3rd and the guard finished 19th.
After practicing for almost a year, the dance, color guard and majorette team went into the competition as the 2013 Chapter XI champions. Following the chapter championships, they were escorted into town by fire trucks and police officers along with their parents and family.
Mikayla Loudenslager, the senior captain for the dance and guard team, said that she was happy with performances of dance and the majorettes. However, she was not as satisfied with the place the guard won because, according to Loudenslager, “I feel like we could have done better.”
Brittney Minnich freshman on the dance and guard team said that her favorite part of the trip was standing on the floor when they announced that dance got second place, and she also enjoyed spending time with the girls.
“My favorite part of the trip was getting second place in finals, riding the Slingshot, and hanging out with the girls” said Abbey Gunter, sophomore on the dance and guard team.
After the guard found out that they weren’t going to semi-finals or finals because they got 19th place out of 24 teams and they only took 18 teams, they all consoled each other as best as they could.
“If I could change anything it would be to have a perfect show for guard,” said Gunter.
“To be totally honest, I wouldn’t change anything for dance. We all put 110% into it and we all tried our hardest. I couldn’t ask for or change anything about it. Other than asking that no one came off the floor regretting anything about your personal performance. For guard though, I would change all of the drops that we had.” said Minnich.
Loudenslager said that she would change the way the girls started to get annoyed with each other at the end of the season.
Since its Loudenslager’s final year in dance and guard she wanted to say that she would miss all of the girls and the instructors because they are all like one big family.
“I will really miss Mikayla because she has helped me grow in the past few years that I’ve been here” said Minnich.
