Brothers Blake and Kaleb Sweitzer represented Tyrone at the PIAA District 6 Boys Golf Tournament on their home course, Sinking Valley Country Club, on September 30.
Freshman Blake Sweitzer shot an impressive 80, while senior Kaleb Sweitzer carded an 84, two of their best rounds of the season.
Despite their strong rounds, the cut to qualify for states was 77, leaving both Tyrone golfers just short of advancing to States.
“It was not the outcome I was hoping for, but it was a good learning experience, and hopefully we’ll be back next year,” freshman Blake said.
Both brothers made steady progress throughout the season, advancing through sectionals to reach the district level.
At districts, they competed among 30 of the region’s top golfers, with only the top seven earning a trip to the state tournament.
For Blake, it was an impressive debut season as a freshman qualifier. For Kaleb, it was a strong finish to his high school golf career.
According to Head Coach Mike Funicelli, the brothers’ friendly rivalry pushed them to improve all year long.
Although this marks the end of the season for the Sweitzers and the rest of the Golden Eagle golf team, the future of looks bright as the team builds toward another district run next fall.
