Student Teacher Spotlight: Rachel Borges, Secondary Education

Each year, student teachers from Penn State appear in the halls of Tyrone High School to learn what it’s like to be in a classroom environment. This year, there are many student teachers scattered throughout the grades.

Rachel Borges, student teacher for Ms. Baker, goes to Penn State Altoona. She is originally from Caldwell, New Jersey and she will be teaching secondary mathematics with Ms. Brittany Baker.

So far Borges is enjoying her Tyrone experience.

“I love it. I’m learning a lot from observing Ms. Baker,” said Borges.

“I’ve always loved helping people. I used to play classroom every day when I was little. It just comes natural to me,” Borges said.

Her favorite part of Tyrone is that the students have advisory in the mornings.

“I love that students [have time to] reflect on themselves. I had never seen that before,” said Borges.

When not teaching math, Borges enjoys watching Netflix and baking for her and her roommates.

After graduation, Borges would love to teach at her old high school in New Jersey or anywhere close to her home.
