Members of the boys and girls varsity track and field team participated in the Bedford Giant Eagle Invitational on Saturday, April 12.

“The warm and sunny weather provided for many personal bests and season bests, and some place-winning results as well,” said head coach Chris Shedd.

“It was a perfect day for running.  We all did well,” said junior Connor Harper.

The Bedford boys and the Forest Hills girls won the event.  The Tyrone boys finished 11th of 17 teams and the girls were 8th of 14 teams.

Senior Jordyn Swogger was the lone Tyrone meet champion, placing 1st in the 200 with a time of 26.5.  Swogger also finished second in the 100 with season best time of 12.9 and second in the 400 with a time of 59.8.

Sophomore Jordan Wiser had a season best 2:36 in the 800 on her way to a 5th place finish.

And the 4 by 400 relay team of Emily Beam, Jordan Wiser, Michaela Diehl, and Jordyn Swogger had a season’s best time of 4:25 on their way to a 4th place finish.

Coach Shedd made me a deal, if I ran under 5:00 and under 2:15 in the 800, he would buy me a cheeseburger. I did it and tasted sweet victory!

Senior Mariah Robison also had a personal best in the shot and freshman Cassie Friday had a season’s best in the 1600 meters.

On the boy’s side, junior Cameron Bakhsheshe took 5th in the 100 finals and 6th in the long jump.

Junior Connor Harper placed 6th in the 200 meters, and the 4 by 100 meter relay team of Scott Goss, Connor Harper, Cameron Bakhsheshe and Duane Boone finished in 4th place.

Sophomore Cullen Raftery took second place in the triple jump with a distance of 38-7.

While he just missed placing, Sophomore Adam Zook recorded a personal best 4:54 in the 1600 and 2:13 in the 800.

According to Zook, he had a little extra motivation for his personal best performances.

“Coach Shedd made me a deal, if I ran under 5:00 and under 2:15 in the 800, he would buy me a cheeseburger,” said Zook, “I did it and tasted sweet victory!”
