As the temperatures rise, the Tyrone track and field team is ready to step back on the track for the 2022 season, hoping to build off their success from last season.

“We lost a good bit of people last year that were key contributors to the team, but we also gained some. I’m very hopeful for the upcoming season. The team as a whole has been working extremely hard during the preseason to accomplish our goals,” said Tyrone senior Mackenzie Latchford. “I’m looking forward to Districts the most because we have a great group of athletes who are willing to work their hearts out.”

While track and field is primarily a spring sport, during the winter many track athletes were putting in work indoors or out in the cold.

The girls are hoping to have another win-filled season like they did last year, hoping to win another district title.

Although the boys didn’t win districts last season, they are coming back this year in high hopes of a different result.

The girl’s team is returning a strong group of sprinters, including Mackenzie Latchford, Reagan Irons, and Natalie Saltsgiver.

In hurdles, after a strong off-season, Eva Toth is hoping to make up for lost time after getting injured early last season.

For mid-distance, Eliza Vance, Rebecca Lewis, and Stephanie Ramsey hope to build off the success they had last season.

In the field, Rayann Walls is hoping to build off her successful season with her throwing events.

Mackenzie Latchford and Reagan Irons will continue to jump in the long jump, high jump, and triple jump.

On the boy’s side, the team is full of returning lettermen and new faces.

The boys return strong sprinters Kolten Miller, Brady Ronan, Brenten Loose, and Dravyn Crowell.

For distance, the team has a strong force behind AJ Detwiler, Rory Quigley, Colton Fink, and new face Aden Detwiler.

In the field and jumping events, the boys will be a force to be reckoned with behind Keegan Gwinn, Jake Johnson, Justin Jackson, Gavin Woomer, Ryan Patterson, and Dylan Brower.

This year’s roster of sixty athletes is strong. Eighteen of them are female, and forty-two of them are males.

Hoping to hit many PR’s, and get a couple of titles, this year’s 2022 track athletes are coming back this spring better than ever.
