Rangers End Lady Eagles Season in Four Sets

This past Tuesday in the second round of district playoffs the Lady Eagles lost in a 3-1 match to the Lady Rangers of Forest Hills.

This was a tough game for the Eagles. Forest Hills proved to be a strong opponent with strong outside hitters and a fast offense.

I saw a big improvement in each player from the beginning of the season till now, so even though we lost this game I think we built a really strong foundation for next year’s season

— Junior Taylan McGlynn

The Eagles struggled to adjust and just couldn’t pull out the win to keep their season alive.

“I think this season was memorable, it taught me how to be stronger mentally and physically,” junior middle hitter Taylan McGlynn said, “ I saw a big improvement in each player from the beginning of the season till now, so even though we lost this game I think we built a really strong foundation for next year’s season.”

The first set was a win of 26-24 for the Lady Eagles. Their serve and pass game this set was the best it was all game, with senior setter Maddy Rockwell leading the team in service points.

Tyrone kept control of the ball and found a way to put the ball on the floor with junior outside hitter Kylee Nelson and sophomore right-side hitter Sarila Hensley leading the team in match kills.

The second set was tight and ended with a 26-24 win for the Lady Rangers. The Eagles fought hard but a few mistakes kept them from taking this set. However, the Eagles stayed optimistic.

Their defense stayed strong this game and sophomore libero Abby Anthony led the team with 17 digs.

The Eagles lost the third set 25-16. The Lady Eagles struggled to put the ball on the floor and stay stopped on defense. The Eagles had many serving errors this set which put them in a point deficit early on.

Even though we lost this game I think we did incredible this season

— Abby Anthony

The final set was a 25-15 loss for the Eagles.

“Even though we lost this game I think we did incredible this season,” sophomore libero Abby Anthony said, “ and with so many of our starters being underclassmen as well as going through many line-up changes, this season was a great building year for the team. I can’t wait to see what we do next year.”

This also happened to be the last game for the two senior players Rockwell and middle hitter Tiffanie Tuskovich.

This was an emotional game for the girls but a strong end to their season 12-6 season.
