Raided: Golden Eagles fall 5-0 to Bellefonte

The Tyrone Golden Eagles varsity baseball team suffered another tough loss on Tuesday, falling 5-0 to Mountain League rival, the Bellefonte Red Raiders. Both teams shut down the other’s offense for the first part of the game, but Bellefonte pulled away in the fourth.

The Golden Eagle offense was patient at the plate drawing six walks, but could not push any runs across home plate.  They were plagued by strikeouts as they were fanned 11 times by Bellefonte pitchers.

The first four innings were dominated by the men on the mound. Tyrone junior Micah Woomer got his first start of the of the season and his counterpart Ashton Wetzlet looked to have control of the game.

Bellefonte put the first run up on the board in the top of the fourth inning when CJ Funk took Woomer deep to left center field giving Bellefonte a 1-0 lead.

Bellefonte put up another run in the top of the fourth inning and held a 2-0 lead after four innings.

Bellefonte would keep the pedal to the floor in the fifth inning when they converted a two-out bases loaded chance into three runs when they sent a double into the left-center gap. The score after 5 innings was 5-0 Bellefonte.

After Woomer’s night was over, sophomore Kevin Lehner came into the game and shut down the Bellefonte offense, striking out four and surrendering no runs.

The Golden Eagles could not muster a comeback, falling to 0-2 on the season, but have a chance to redeem themselves when they take on another Mountain League opponent in Bald Eagle at home at 4:30.
