The Tyrone Cross Country team competed at the Mountain League Championships at Penns Valley on Wednesday, October 20th. The boy’s team placed third overall, while the girls had one athlete place in the top five. Tyrone senior AJ Detwiler and junior Beth Pearson were named first-team Mountain League All-Stars.

¨We had a successful evening at the Mountain League meet. The kids always work very hard to get to this point in the season and it showed. It was a perfect fall day to run and the meet was held on a very nice Penns Valley course,¨ said Head Coach Tammy Wills.

With only two runners, Beth Pearson and Aliyah Riling, the girl’s team could not compete to their full potential because key athletes were unable to run due to illness or injury.

Sporting seven runners, the boys clinched a third-place finish, falling just behind Hollidaysburg and Bellefonte.

¨[Beth Pearson] has worked very hard and it shows. [She] has led our girls team this season consistently being our number one runner,¨ said Wills.

Pearson took fifth overall at the meet, as well as being named a Mountain League All-Star.

¨[Adam Detwiler] had a few setbacks early in the season but is coming back strong and gets better and better with each week and each race,¨ said Wills.

Detwiler took 11th overall and was also named a Mountain League All-Star.

The team will finish out the season at Indian Valley on October 30th, as they compete at the District meet.
