A familiar face at Tyrone High School is now in a different place.

Former learning support paraprofessional and Tyrone graduate Gabrielle McLarren has taken over for the recently retired library assistant Mary Riggle.

“I really enjoy reading, and giving recommendations, so I thought it’d be a great place to be,” said Ms. McLarren about her new position.

McLarren took over the position after Riggle retired this past June.

“My favorite part of this job is interacting with the kids, and introducing them to books,” McLarren told.

As a paraprofessional, McLarren would help the kids in the high school learning support room. She also helped in other places around the school, like working lunch duty in the cafeteria.

As the library assistant, McLarren’s main responsibilities are checking books in and out, shelving them when they come in, dealing with overdue book fines, and helping the classrooms when teachers bring them down.

“If students have research for a class or something, or if they’re doing a personal book project they can come down and check out the books,” said McLarren. “I’m here to help, too.”

“I’d like to encourage students to come down,” said McLarren. “I just hope to see kids coming in.”

In order to visit the library, students must get a pass from their teachers. The library is also open before and after school for students who don’t have time during the day.
