Lehman’s a Lion!

Girls Basketball Team MVP Emily Lehman is taking her talents to PSUA

Tyrone senior Emily Lehman will team up with the dynasty of Tyrone girls that have gone to Penn State Altoona Women’s Basketball Team.

Lehman will join former teammates Finnley Christine (2016) and Alexis Cannistraci (2017) at Penn State Altoona next fall.

The Lady Lions won eleven games last year and turned some heads with their level of play. However, the Lady Lions are losing two senior post players, opening a window of opportunity for Lehman to contribute early.

“It’s going to be great to play with Finn and Lex again,” said Lehman. “I’m just excited to get on the court and continue to do what I love.”

According to Lehman, her decision was easy. Being as dedicated in the classroom as she is on the court, academics was just as big a part of the decision. Lehman also considered the University of Waynesburg but in the end fell in love with Penn State Altoona. Lehman will be majoring in kinesiology, and plans to pursue a career in physical therapy or physical education.

“I like that the school is close to home and I’ll be able to see some familiar faces on campus,” said Lehman.

Lehman is coming off of a prolific senior season, where she averaged 11.7 points and 8.7 rebounds and won the team MVP.

Lehman also earned MVP honors at the annual Altoona Mirror Classic All-Star Game, in which she had 12 points and 10 rebounds.  Lehman was the first Lady Eagle player to win the MVP award at this annual game.

“Emily worked extremely hard and had a very nice career here at Tyrone,” said Tyrone Head Coach Lucas Rhoades, “She was a really solid force scoring inside and rebounding.”

Lehman had a career full of accolades at Tyrone including winning the Mountain League Championship three years straight and earning a First Team All Mountain League All-Star Selection.

“It will be fun to watch Emily continue to grow as a player at PSU Altoona and reconnect with some former teammates,” said Lucas Rhoades, “I am excited to watch them all playing together again.”
