The girls just compete, plain and simple. They’re learning how to do that at a consistent level and with more intensity

— Head Coach Mike Kraft

“It was definitely a team effort last night and a team win,” said head coach Mike Kraft, “the girls are getting better and gaining confidence as we move forward.”

Lexi Cannistraci had 9 kills, 5 aces, and 3 blocks.

Carly Crofcheck had 15 assists and Torrie Foy had 18 service points and 6 aces.

“I really focused on serving,” said Foy, “sometimes we struggle with that and I wanted to prove how good we really are.”

“Bellefonte’s coach, Christina Diaz, is probably the best coach I have ever worked with,” said Kraft, “Bellefonte is young this year, but like us they don’t use that as an excuse.”

On Monday, he Tyrone varsity girls volleyball team defeated the Juniata Valley.

The Lady Eagles won the first set 25-21 and the Hornets came back to win the second 21-25. The Lady Eagles stepped up to win set three and four with 25-17 and 26-24 going in over-count.

“The girls just compete, plain and simple,” said Kraft, “they’re learning how to do that at a consistent level and with more intensity.”

Lexi Cannistraci led the team with 7 kills, 12 digs, 4 aces and 4 blocks.

“I think I had an okay game overall. It was kind of sloppy, but a win is a win,” said Cannistraci.

“We passed well to run Cannistraci through the middle when she was front row,” said Kraft, “when she was back row, Juniata Valley always seemed to go on a run because we couldn’t terminate a ball on offense.  In set 4, Maddie Veit began to be terminal when Cannistraci was back row which stopped Juniata Valley’s surges of momentum and got us the win.”

Maddie Veit had 8 kills and 11 service points.

“I knew what Juniata’s intentions were, so I stepped up and was able to control the ball to make up for bad plays,” said Veit, “we beat Juniata Valley last year during the Bellwood tournament, and it was nice to beat them again.”

The Lady Eagles are currently missing players Emily Fusco and Shaniah Lowery, which makes a difference for the teams preformance.

“We made mental mistakes last night we typically wouldn’t make with those two on the floor,” said Kraft, “Emily and Shaniah are two of the hardest working kids I have ever coached from junior high to men’s college.”

Carly Crofcheck had 20 assists and 4 blocks. Victoria Foy also had 4 aces and Lobero Anslee Walk had 30 digs.

The Lady Eagles are currently 3-0 in conference play and 3-1 overall, with their only defeat coming against Bellwood. The Eagles play Huntingdon next on Thursday September 18th.
