The Lady Eagles used the three point arc to their advantage in their win over Huntingdon Friday night 58-49.

Senior Sydney Shaw chipped in 5 three pointers among her 17 points, while freshmen Jaida Parker, who had one three pointer, and Stephanie Ramsey, who had three, scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.

We were able to hit most of our threes, but we didn’t execute well

“We were able to hit most of our threes, but we didn’t execute well,” said sophomore Shannon Shaw.

Huntingdon played great defense against the Lady Eagles, causing them to settle for threes. Fortunately for the Lady Eagles, those shots from the outside were dropping.

“[Huntingdon] was playing real good pressure defense,” Coach Lucas Rhoades said. “They fly around and hit the gaps. That makes it tough on us. We wanted to get to the basket more, but when they pressed, it caused us to settle for the [3-point] shots, and luckily, they fell.”

Ahead 23-17 at halftime, the Tyrone had four more three pointers to carry the third quarter, 18-11, and build a big lead.

Despite the slower start than usual, the Lady Eagles were able to play better in the third quarter.

I thought we rebounded the ball better in the third quarter, and that allowed us to get out and go

— Coach Rhoades

“I thought we rebounded the ball better in the third quarter, and that allowed us to get out and go,” Rhoades said.

The Lady Eagles felt that they didn’t play their best game and kind of just went through the motions. They were glad they could still escape with a win.

“I don’t think we played our best, but we were still able to find a way to win,” said senior Sydney Shaw.

The Lady Eagles advanced to 9-1 in the Mountain League, while Huntingdon dropped back to 7-3.

Tyrone also hopes to work on improving their defense and executing the offense better in upcoming games.
