The Lady Eagles had a huge win this past Thursday night against Tyrone’s rival, the Bellwood Lady Blue Devils. This game matured the team as a whole and was a great way to end the season as well as getting the girls in the right mindset for playoffs starting on Monday.

Wining the second set by as much as we did, gave us a ton of confidence and allowed us to come out in every set after that with our foot on the gas petal

In the first set, both teams were playing great ball with points going back and forth the entire time. The Lady Blue Devils went back to serve in the middle of the set and gained a 5 point lead which would be hard for the Lady Eagles to recover from. Not giving up, the Lady Eagles focused on passing and playing good defense, but fell in the first set 25-22.

“It was a very exciting and energized game to be apart of no doubt,” said freshman Piper Christine who blocked Bellwood’s big middle multiple times and pulled blockers off of our pin hitters.

The second set had a different feeling from the service line for the Lady Eagles. Unlike the first set, the Lady Eagles challenged the Lady Blue Devils by serving the ball hard to add to the total 19 aces the Lady Eagles had the entire night. Serving hard allowed the Lady Blue Devils to get out of system and most times allowed for the Lady Eagles to score. The ending score of the second set was 25-9.

“Wining the second set by as much as we did, gave us a ton of confidence and allowed us to come out in every set after that with our foot on the gas petal,” said senior Bri Foy.

The third set wasn’t as easy of a set to win as the second, but the Lady Eagles never once stopped fighting every play. With incredible saves from senior Ebonee Rice, senior Alexis Umholtz, and junior Makenna Bauer, the Lady Eagles were able to put up a good ball and be offensive even with big blockers up at the net. The third set ended with the Lady Eagles on top with a score of 25-21.

“As a spectator seeing the effort put forth by our Lady Eagles in order to save every ball possible got us excited to cheer louder than Bellwood in their own gym,” said the teams #1 fan Laura Kohler.

The forth set was just like the second and third in that the Lady Eagles took charge early and gave the Lady Blue Devils no hope to win the game. Junior Courtney Williams was a huge contributor at the net recording 9 kills that would shut the Lady Blue Devils down. The ending score of the forth set went to the Lady Eagles with a score of 25-19.

The Lady Eagles finish out the regular season 12-4.

Tyrone will host Penn Cambria in the first round of AA playoffs on Monday at 7pm.
