The Lady Eagles opened their season Wednesday night with a convincing 78-45 win over the Philipsburg-Osceola Mounties.  A balanced attack, including four players in double figures, was a big reason Tyrone had a hot start to their 2016-2017 campaign.

Sydney Shaw led the Lady Eagles with 19 points.  Alexis Cannistraci scored 15 points, Kasey Engle scored 14, and Emily Lehman added 13 points.

“We played really well as a team, and that played a major role in getting the win. It could really help us go far,” said sophomore Shaw. Shaw finished the game with four three-point buckets.

“The girls played hard for 32 minutes and they played well as a team,” added Tyrone head coach Luke Rhoades.

The teamwork and ball movement showed throughout the entire game, but especially the first minute when the Lady Eagles jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead, forcing a PO timeout.  Even more impressive, of the Lady Eagles 32 field goals, 23 were assisted and 10 different players were able to score.

Not only did the Lady Eagles display unselfish play, but they also lit up the boards with 67 rebounds, 27 being on the offensive end.

“We rebounded well and had four girls in double digits.  That’s what it’s going to take for us to be successful this year. I’m excited by tonight,” said senior Alexis Cannistraci, who dominated the boards with 11 rebounds.

Tonight Tyrone looks to keep the momentum going against the Central Dragons, a Mountain League rival.
