The Tyrone Lady Eagles led after three quarters but were unable to hold on against the Tussey Mountain Lady Titans. The Titans had a strong fourth quarter comeback for the 54-48 win over the Eagles.
“We need to make more shots when we are up and we need to stop letting teams comeback,” said sophomore Kasey Engle.
Breana Kendrick and Courtney Rupert were the leading scorers for the Lady Titans with 33 points combined, each with two outside shots.
Kasey Engle and Finnley Christine led the Lady Eagles with 44 points combined. Engle had three outside shots and Christine had two.
“I thought we fought hard but in the end we all just need to eliminate little mistakes,” said Engle.
“I thought we played hard we just didn’t hit the shots we needed to,” said Tyrone head coach Luke Rhoades.
The game was back and forth for almost the entire third quarter.
With the score 32-34 and Tussey leading, Engle drove to the basket followed by Christine who hit a three-pointer to take the lead.
At the end of the third quarter, freshman Emily Lehman put up two points to make the score 39-35 with Tyrone leading by four.
The Lady Titans came back with 19 points in the fourth quarter holding the Lady Eagles to only nine.
Freshman Payton Wagner got her first start in place of sophomore Alexis Cannistraci, who was injured in Friday’s game versus Central.
“I felt really nervous and pressured to fill in for Alexis,” said Wagner, “I think overall we did well we just made some stupid mistakes.”
“I think they played well but there were too many penalties and turnovers. They need to box out and have more confidence,” said nine year old Angelina Rhoades.
