Lady Eagles Fall to BG

Tyrone struck first, but gave up 5 unanswered goals in a 5-1 loss

Tyrone Lady Eagles (Todd Cammarata)After a tough battle, the Lady Eagles lost to Bishop Guilfoyle in a 5-1 loss at Tom Irwin Field in Altoona.

Tyrone started out strong and scored the first goal of the game just 5 minutes in. Senior captain Lainey Quick made a run into the middle of the field while sophomore Marrissa Cacciotti placed a ball perfectly at Quick’s feet. Quick took a shot wide and it flew into the back of the net.

The Lady Eagles had no time to celebrate, however. Within the next minute, BG’s Nicole Hawk dribbled down the field and struck the ball and it soared right past Tyrone’s keeper.

Minutes later, The Marauders attacked the Tyrone defense again. Hawk stole the ball and dribbled right through the defense, took a shot, and scored their second goal of the game.

However, Tyrone did not give up. They continued the battle and held defensively, but a handball in the penalty area resulted in a BG penalty kick. Hawk took the kick and struck it low and to the right. While Tyrone’s keeper, Pyper Sparklin, dove for the ball, the shot was too powerful for her to save.

The Lady Eagles were determined to get back in the game. They kept the intensity up and held Bishop Guilfoyle for the next 20 minutes, but as the half neared the end, BG kept the pressure up.

Tyrone could not match their intensity, resulting in BG’s Hailey Degol dribbling down the field and placing the ball into the back of the net, ending the half 4-1 BG.

The second half was filled with intensity from both teams. Tyrone was not ready to give up yet, and even though they were down 3 goals, they were determined to make a comeback.

Many shots were taken that were saved by both teams. They continued the back-and-forth battle until BG’s Rayna Columbo was able to tap the ball into the net after a cross.

The rest of the game was evenly matched. Tyrone held off BG to score any more goals, but Tyrone couldn’t retake space or secure any more goals, as they would go on to lose 5-1.

After this loss, Tyrone’s record stands at 4-9.
