TAHS students nominated for the 2013 Isaac Awards for musical theatre

As musical season comes to a close, students at Tyrone are preparing to attend the Isaac Awards on May 26th at the historic Mishler Theater in Altoona.

Two TAHS students were nominated for their performance in Tyrone’s portrayal of the show “Grease.”

Senior Emily Jamison was nominated for Best Actress for her role as Rizzo and sophomore Hope Wilson was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance as Jan.

The Isaac Awards are given annually by the Altoona Community Theatre for excellence in high school musical theatre and provide scholarships for the recipients of individual awards.  Since the Isaacs began, ACT has awarded more than $15,000 in college scholarships to Isaac Award winners.

All participating schools also perform a number from their show on the night of the awards ceremony.

Tyrone is set to perform “Those Magic Changes.” from “Grease.”

Sophomore Hope Wilson was extremely excited to be nominated for the Best Actress in a Supporting Role Award.

“It was an honor just to be nominated for the Isaacs. But I feel like I couldn’t have done anything without the amazing cast and crew. I couldn’t be more excited to attend the ceremony,” said Wilson.

Senior Emily Jamison, also expressed her excitement stating, “I was so happy when I saw the nomination list.  It’s exciting for me to be recognized from the Isaacs for a role like Rizzo, because it is the complete opposite from my last nomination for Cinderella. It’s more than I could ever ask for, because just being in this show with all my amazing friends was an awesome experience! I couldn’t be more excited for both myself and Hope!”

The show was directed by Tyrone music teacher Mrs. Brittany Hipp.  When asked what her favorite part of the show was Mrs. Hipp stated “The best part was the cast.  Everyone was so positive and incredibly hard-working. There were no complaining or bad attitudes and the talent was phenomenal.  Working with this group of students made the jobs of the production team much easier.”

The entire cast is buzzing with excitement and those performing are looking forward to the experience.

A list of all the nominees and further information on the Isaac awards are available at the official Isaac’s Award page on the ACT website.
