Inside the huddle with Seth Umholtz: Clearfield edition

Every week of the football season Senior Caption Seth Umholtz shares his unique perspective on the Golden Eagle football team.

The past week was a very intense time for the football team. With Clearfield coming up that Friday, we knew that practice had to be sharp and we had to be prepared for a brawl. Clearfield was coming into the game undefeated and they had not lost a regular season game since 2009. At the same time, each member of the team knew that we could beat Clearfield.

The way practices were held through the week was a little different than previous weeks. We wore full pads on both Tuesday and Wednesday and instead of only wearing our helmets for the walk through on Thursday, we wore helmets and shoulder pads. With that, the walk through practice was a slightly more intense than usual.

During my pre game kicking warm ups we had an unforeseen issue arise. The special, square-toe kicking shoe that I normally wear when I kick was not in the ball bag. In fact, it had been mistakenly left back in our field house in Tyrone. Thankfully, due to the efforts of a couple coaches, the shoe did make it to the game before the opening kickoff.

As previously stated, all the guys on the team completely believed that we could come away with a big victory against a good triple-A squad. The locker room was electric right before kickoff during Coach Oliver’s speech. Each guy on the team was ready to fight until the scoreboard had ticked down to all zeros.

We all fought as hard as we could during the contest and though there are no moral victories here for the Tyrone Football Team, the one point loss against a very good team shows us that we can play with the best teams in the area.

This week we are getting refocused for an important game against Central Mountain with quad-A points up for grabs.
