Since the final whistle of last year’s tough playoff loss to Richland closed out the 2013 season, we have been preparing for this day: The Backyard Brawl.

Through seven months of lifting.

Then clinics in June.

July brought more lifting and more clinics.

Finally, in August, three-a-day practices and conditioning camp.

It’s been a long road, but we are ready.

Since August we have been nothing but business on the field. Our coaches have made sure that every detail is perfected before moving on.

Monday started “Bellwood Week” as we say down on the field.  The team was very energetic this week. We all knew that from there on everything had to be perfect.

Bellwood is no joke. Year in and year out Bellwood always puts up a fight, and will not be easily beat.

Thursdays practice went quick and precise. We had our first pre-game pep talk by new head coach Jason Wilson. Coach Wilson knows our potential and he will not be happy with anything less than perfection.

Nerves will be high this year as it is every year for us seniors. We know that this will be our last Backyard Brawl.

We know what we have to do as soon as our feet hit that field tonight, it’s what we have been working towards up to this point…perfection.

The first Friday night lights will be a warm 77 degrees when the first whistle blows. In this type of heat we will need to stay hydrated to prevent ourselves from cramping.

We will win tonight because we will Out-Condition Our Opponent.  When they are tired we will be catching our second wind and taking it to them.

It’s all about #5 tonight boys…let’s get lucky.
