Mrs. Mary Riggle will retire at the end of this school year with 9 years of service to the Tyrone Area School District.

Mrs. Mary Riggle, the high school library assistant, is retiring after nine years of service to the Tyrone Area School District.

Riggle plans on making the most of her retirement by travelling extensively and devoting more time to her and her husband’s passion of wine tasting and judging.

“I’m a certified wine judge and my husband and I are travelling to nine different wine competitions between May and November,” said Riggle.

Among the places the Riggles will travel are New York, New Jersey, South Carolina and several festivals here in Pennsylvania.

Riggle began working at TASD in 2005 as a special eduation paraprofessional and became the library assistant following the retirement of long time library aid Linda Durman.

Riggle’s responsibilities in the library include the circulation of books, maintaining the library space, tracking and collecting library fines, helping students and teachers with interlibrary loan,  and supervising students while they are using the library facilities.

“Mary has been a tremendous help to me, she has basically run the library for the past couple of years,” said high school librarian Ken Grady.

“I will miss her and I wish her the absolute best in retirement, she’s earned it,” added Grady.

Riggle graduated from Coudersport Area High School and attended Mansfield University majoring in Library Science.

“I’m going to miss how organized she kept the library,” said sophomore Jacob Meyer, who helped in the library for community outreach this year.

“She is a sweet lady, and I enjoyed helping her out,” said senior Roxanne Wilburn, who also worked with Riggle as a community outreach student this year, “I’m going to miss just being able to talk to her.”

According to Riggle, what she will miss the most from her years at TAHS are the teachers and students, but she won’t miss having to wake up early to come to work every day.

Riggle and her husband Ivan will also celebrate their fortieth wedding anniversary this August.

Riggle has four sons is happy to report that all of them will be able to join her and her husband for their fortieth anniversary celebration.

“We wish her all the best!” said Grady.
