Tyrone’s Health Occupations Students of America Club (HOSA) held a food drive to donate to the Tyrone food bank.

“It is always nice to help people, especially around the holidays. I look forward to doing this both times that we do each year,” said Christy Taylor, health technology teacher and HOSA advisor.

Each class period competed to bring in the most non-perishable food items, the winner receiving a pizza party.

The first period class was the winner.

Over 250 items were donated to the food bank.

“Having the pizza party as an award was good motivation. My class was pretty competitive about it, which probably contributed to our win,” said sophomore Cassie Friday.

There was also an individual winner, sophomore Allison Hosko, who brought in 53 items.

“I am happy to help others and I’m glad that what I am doing can make a difference. I encourage others to help also,”  said Hosko.

The food will be donated to the Tyrone food bank, and the food bank will give the food to qualifying families that are in need of it.

“I hope that the food will really benefit whoever it goes to. I can’t imagine being in need of food. I’m glad we helped them,” said sophomore Justice Myers.

HOSA will hold another food drive in the spring.
