Slick your hair, pop your collar, and spread the news: the Tyrone Area High School Drama Department is making a triumphant return to the TAHS auditorium stage to present Grease as its 2024 spring musical.

After not having their normal performance space during the auditorium’s much-needed renovations, students’ anticipation generated from last year’s postponement of this show is finally over.

It’s a great show and an even greater cast that is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

— Austin White

With the changes that have come from this effort, the space offers the potential for an incredible show, and the Drama Club is determined to make it just that.

“We have a great cast and are very excited to begin rehearsals,” says Choral and Drama Director Laura Harris as she prepares for this year’s musical. “This year’s production promises to be an outstanding show.”

Those who enjoy the iconic 1978 film should be aware that this production of Grease is its predecessor; while the movie has most of the original musical’s major plot points, there are some significant differences between the screenplay and stage production to make its content more appropriate for a wider audience.

Not to worry, though… this show still offers the well-known, fun-loving style that appeals to all ages.

This story follows the two big cliques of Rydell High: the attitude-filled, dolled-up Pink Ladies and the rough-and-tumble, greaser Burger Palace Boys. Between the groups, a romance blossoms in the summer fling between the infamous Danny Zuko and new girl Sandy Dumbrowski. As Danny struggles to balance his confident, strong reputation and his lingering lust for Sandy, questions arise about whether their romance will last beyond the heat of summer.

With its iconic rock and roll soundtrack and charming characters, Grease promises to have something for everyone to enjoy. Tyrone’s performers are thrilled to present this show to the community.

TASD’s own Danny Zuko, senior Austin White, is enthusiastic about presenting this musical, saying, “It’s a great show and an even greater cast that is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.”

Take a trip back to the 1950s with this iconic show on Friday, April 5th, and Saturday, April 6th, 2024 in the TAHS auditorium.

Ticket information will be available in the coming weeks.
