When students are struggling through hardships, have upcoming events, or want to pray for their friends or family, they can fulfill their needs by attending prayer group in health teacher Teresa Myers room every Wednesday morning.

When asked what prayer group was, Myers describes it as a student-led group who gather to pray for their school, other students, family, sports and anything or anyone else that needs prayers.

“The only thing I’m allowed to do is provide a supervised room for students to gather,” said Myers, “I am not allowed to participate in the group even though I have a similar belief system as the students who come.”

“I love going to prayer group. All of us get together, pray, and have a good time. I would recommend it to anyone,” said freshman Hollie Keller.

Along with being a safe place, the prayer group also helps students grow, according to freshman Makenna Bauer.

“We all pray out loud in small groups and then someone closes with the ‘big group prayer’, usually thanking God for everything that we are blessed to have. Personally, it has helped strengthen my relationship with God and hearing what other people are thankful for makes me more grateful too,” said Bauer.

Freshman Laura Kohler organizes and promotes the group.

“[I hope] students from other grades start coming. Our goal is to spread God’s light throughout the school and for everyone to feel welcome to come worship with us. Mostly only ninth graders come, but we want everyone to join,” said Kohler.

According to Myers, approximately twenty freshmen have been coming weekly since about the second month of school.

“Eliya Craig, Maquel and Mia Kosoglow, and Lexi and Blaise Kilmartin started the group in 2013. The group was hosted by Mrs. Guillaume and Mr. Boslough. As students got older and moved to other schools, upper grades began to drop in attendance,” said Kohler.

So far the group has been all freshman, however, they welcome all Tyrone Area High School students every Wednesday morning before the first bell in Mrs. Myers’ room.
