First Half Frenzy

A first-half offensive flurry boosted the Golden Eagles to a convincing 41-28 win over the 5A Golden Tigers of Hollidaysburg at home last Friday night.

If Hollidaysburg thought playing a 2A school would provide them with an easy late-season win, they were very mistaken, as the Golden Eagles scored easily and often in a Tyrone-dominated first half.

Tyrone played their best half of the season and took a 35-0 halftime lead to start the running clock. They outgained the Golden Tigers 325 yards to 14 in the first half.

The offensive line was a key factor in Tyrone’s win over the Golden Tigers, making a push on every play, and protecting quarterback Ashton Walk.

The line made up of Dylon Brower, Braden Ewing, Gavin Woomer, Jimmy Fogelman, and Caleb Mckinney has each started every game this year together.

They have developed good chemistry, allowing them to dominate the line of scrimmage against a much bigger Hollidaysburg defensive front.

The defensive effort was uneven this week, holding the Tigers scoreless in the first half, only to see them come roaring back in the second half.

The Eagle’s secondary struggled in the second half, allowing four touchdown passes by Tucker Rossman to Caden DeLattre.

However, the Golden Eagles benefitted from the running clock that starts when a team is up by 35 points or more.

The clock haunted the Golden Tigers, forcing them to try an onside kick early in the fourth quarter down by 14. Tyrone recovered, and three plays later, Brady Ronan sealed the game with a 41-yard touchdown run.

The game was also senior night for the football team, band, cheerleaders, and Eagle Eye photographers and videographers. Click the slideshow below to see all of the seniors.

With all the controversy surrounding the St. Marys game, The Golden Eagles will look ahead to playoff week against the Scarlet Dragons of Central. The Golden Eagles will host the Scarlet Dragons at Grays Memorial Field on November 4th with a 7 pm start.
