Editorial: Well done YAN

A huge thank you to YAN and everyone who helped make the Golden Eagle Halloween event happen

Congratulations and many thanks to YAN and all the groups involved in this year’s first annual Golden Eagle Halloween event! The success of this event is not only seen in the number of people that attended, but in what it gave back to the community.

The Golden Eagle Halloween provided the kids in the community a safe place to trick-or-treat and socialize with their friends. They had opportunities to get candy, decorate cookies, and make spooky arts and crafts. They were also given a treat bag at the door just for coming, but those bags ran out quickly due to the staggering amount of people that decided to come.

The amount of people that attended this year’s Halloween was well above what was expected. It was estimated that over 700 people showed up and that is amazing. Any time that a community can come together and support a great cause is a reason for celebration.

The money earned from Golden Eagle Halloween was split between the Panzi Hospital in Africa and the local Tyrone foodbank. For those who rely on the food bank this event was more than a chance for more free candy; this event gave them food to eat and support from their town. For the recipients in Africa the money raised will help save lives and provide better healthcare for those affected by the conflict in the nation.

This event not only instilled a sense of community in those that attended, but it also showed the surrounding area that the Tyrone Area School District cares about the town, especially the children.

Thanks again to YAN and I am certain the community is looking forward to next year’s event already.
