Eagle Wrestlers Open with a Win

The Golden Eagles opened their season with a win against the Hollidaysburg Golden Tigers on Thursday, December 7th.

Hollidaysburg started with a 24-0 lead with three Tyrone forfeits at weights 106, 114, and 127 and a pin at 121 when Tyrone’s Dom Pluebell fell to Logan Krupka in the second period.

Tyrone’s rally started at 133 with Logan Rumberger winning 11-0 over Jacob Brua.  After that, the Golden Eagles never looked back, scoring 45 unanswered points to take the match 45-24.

The 139 lbs weight class was set to have two girls face off. Skylee Parks bumped up to wrestle Tyrone’s Grace Pluebell. Pluebell didn’t take her lightly as she pinned Parks in just 29 seconds. After 2 wins in a row, Tyrone never looked back as they steamrolled the Golden Tigers for the rest of the match.

At 145, Tyrone’s Remington Fleck fought to hold on to a 3-1 win over Mason Schenk. After two scoreless periods. Fleck took down and escaped immediately, Fleck then countered one of Schenk’s attacks and was able to get a takedown and ride Schenk out till the remaining 10 seconds.

The match of the night came at 152, Senior Cohen Wallace picked up a pin over Hollidaysburg freshman Blake Kennedy. Wallace was trailing 10-3 going into the third but Wallace locked up a cradle immediately after the whistle blew and cranked it the whole period until he flattened Kennedy. Wallace picked up the pin and kept Tyrone rolling.

There was little contest at 160 for Tyrone’s Lukas Walk, getting his arm raised for an easy six, putting the Eagles up 25-24 with four remaining bouts.

Tyrone’s Kyle Scott kicked off the bout at 172 with swift takedowns and turns. Scott built his lead-up until he tech-falled Mason Baronner.

Tyrone senior Andrew Weaver built on the Eagle’s lead by destroying Hollidaysburg’s 189-pounder. Weaver’s aggressiveness was able to allow him to pick up a pin in 1:28.

The action at 215 was everything but boring. Tyrone’s Richard Rawlings was down 4-0 after getting thrown by Hollidaysburg’s  Tyson Bridenbaugh. Rawlings was trailing 6-4 going into the third. Both wrestlers were dead tired, Rawlings went on a 5-point score streak, escaping off the bottom and taking down Bridenbaugh to take the lead 7-6. Rawlings added a turn which got him 2 near-fall points to clutch the match.
